Stephen Beeson is the Founder of Practicing Excellence.com, a premier on-line destination for clinician learning and development. He is a board-certified family medicine physician practicing with Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group. In 2001, Dr. Beeson was selected by Sharp HealthCare leadership to serve as the Physician Director for the Sharp Experience, an organizational commitment to service and operational excellence.
Steven Berger is President of Healthcare Insights, LLC, which specializes in the teaching and consulting of healthcare financial management issues. In addition, Healthcare Insights has developed INSIGHTS, a management accountability and decision support software solution for the healthcare industry. Prior to his role at Healthcare Insights, Mr. Berger was Vice President, Finance for seven years at 250- bed Highland Park Hospital in suburban Chicago, Illinois. Before Highland Park Hospital and since 1978, he has been a hospital or health system finance officer in New York, New Jersey and Missouri.
Mr. Berger has 39 years of healthcare financial management experience.
Jonathan H. Burroughs, MD, MBA, FACHE, FACPE works with some of the nation’s top healthcare consulting organizations to provide ‘best practice’ solutions and training in the areas of governance, physician–hospital alignment strategies, credentialing, privileging, peer review and performance improvement/patient safety, medical staff development planning, strategic planning, physician performance and behavior management as well as ways in which physicians and management can work together in new ways to solve quality, safety, operational, and financial challenges.
An accomplished author, speaker, and physician executive, Dr. Kent Bottles is known as a pioneer in population health management tools, digital medicine, social media, and big data predictive analytics. Currently on the faculty of The Thomas Jefferson University School of Population Health, Dr. Bottles delivers 50 keynotes and 20 hospital board retreats a year on the topics of the future of health care delivery, digital medicine, predictive analytics, the Affordable Care Act, disruptive technologies, and engaging physicians in quality and transformation of payment programs.
Amy C. Edmondson currently serves as the Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School, where she has taught since 1996. Edmondson’s research examines leadership, learning and innovation in teams and organizations, and has been published in more than 70 articles in journals, books, in addition to over 30 Harvard cases. Her research, teaching, and consulting on these issues has occurred in the contexts of health care delivery, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, financial services, government agencies, and consumer product companies. Her emphasis is on teaming – the activities of collaborative work across boundaries – rather than on stable team structures. Her books – Teaming: How organizations learn, innovate, and compete in the knowledge economy (Jossey Bass, 2012) and Teaming to innovate (Jossey-Bass 2013) – translate her research into practical advice for managers.
Dr. Louellen Essex is an organization learning and development consultant specializing in leadership, communication, team building, and conflict resolution. For over twenty years, she has worked extensively with private industry, government, health care organizations, and educational institutions. Her work focuses on helping leaders develop specific skills they can immediately apply to real-life situations. Dr. Essex is certified to administer and interpret the MBTI, Steps I and II, and the DISC Profile. She has developed her own Conflict Management Style Profile and Teamability Assessment.
Dr. Hull is a highly accomplished executive coach, organization effectiveness, leadership development, and human resource management professional. An expert in the field of organizational and leadership development since 1995, he has worked with leading multi-national companies in the US, Asia, and Europe, both as a senior management team member, as a coach and consultant. He has worked on projects with Fortune 100 and global organizations in a wide range of industries, including health care, financial services, technology, pharmaceuticals, media/advertising and education.
Carol Kauffman, PhD ABPP PCC, is a leadership coach with over 20 years of experience helping leaders raise the bar on their performance and managing their success. Dr. Kauffman has extensive coaching experience with over 40,000 hours of client contact. She works with multi-national organizations either on an individual basis or in tandem with large-scale leadership development programs. A sampling of clients includes: Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Massachusetts Medical Center, Health Dialog (BUPA) Partners, Wellington, Bombardier, Linklaters, Norton Rose, Cameron McKenna, and McKinsey. In addition to coaching, Carol has designed and delivered Leadership Coach Training programs to physicians and business leaders. Some examples include: 75 MGH Physicians/Faculty in Internal Medicine, the top 100 at Unilever, top 25 at BUPA/Health Dialog and, as coach educator, Carol is the Chief Supervisor of the Meyler Campbell Business Coach Programme in the UK, supervised the BCG European/Middle Eastern fleet of leadership coaches.
Lisa Lahey is Co-director of Minds At Work, a consulting firm serving businesses and institutions around the world, and faculty at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. For the past several years, Lisa has served as a trusted advisor and executive coach to leaders in the private and public sectors worldwide. She teaches in executive development programs at Harvard University and Notre Dame, and she is regularly asked to present her work throughout the world, most recently in China, Kazakhstan, and New Zealand. Her seminal books, How The Way We Talk Can Change The Way We Work (2001), and Immunity to Change (2009) have been published in many languages. Her latest book, An Everyone Culture (2016) will be published next spring, 2016. Lisa has been on the faculty of the World Economic Forum’s Davos Conference, and had her work featured in The Atlantic, MSNBC News, Harvard Business Review, The New York Times Sunday Business Section, Oprah Magazine and Fast Company. Lahey and long-time collaborator Robert Kegan are credited with a breakthrough discovery of a hidden dynamic, the “immunity to change,” which impedes personal and organizational transformation. Her work helps people to close the gap between their good intentions and behaviors.
Larry McEvoy, MD, a seasoned health care executive and experienced emergency physician, has the unique capacity to integrate different strategic and professional perspectives through leadership, facilitation, coaching and presentation. Larry’s experience as both a CEO and a clinician deepens his skill in facilitating dynamic shifts in mindset, culture and performance. Whether he is working as a titular leader, consultant, facilitator or storyteller, Larry is particularly effective at creating strategic alignment, inclusive leadership and energetic collaboration. Dr. McEvoy is the co-founder of Chief of Strategy and Innovation for Practicing Excellence and serves as an executive-in-residence at the Center for Creative Leadership, a global resource for leadership development, practice, and research.
Dr. Susan Reynolds has a depth of expertise conducting organizational assessments, leadership development seminars, executive and physician coaching, Joint Commission consulting, and strategic planning retreats for numerous healthcare organizations, academic medical centers, and national and state medical associations. A former emergency physician, emergency medical center CEO, and White House health care advisor, Dr. Reynolds is the creator and Program Director for the highly acclaimed Chief of Staff Boot Camps®. During the past ten years, over 2,000 physician leaders and healthcare executives have been trained through this program.
During his 30-year career, Bob has designed and implemented systems and processes to ensure organizations have the right people, in the right roles motivated to produce superior results. He spent the past 19 years at Kaiser Permanente (KP) where he was Vice President of National Learning and Development. Bob was responsible for leadership development, succession management and overseeing learning and development activities across KP. He worked directly with senior executives on succession planning and the development of strong leadership pipelines for key roles. Prior to working at KP, Bob was a consultant, General Manager and Partner at The Hay Group, a global consulting firm. He consulted across industry sectors, including financial services, research and development, manufacturing and had a strong focus in health care. Bob’s consulting expertise included executive assessment, succession management, competency model development and application, performance management and compensation. He focused on managing client relationships and large, multi-practice projects.
Dr. Brian Silverstein is a national healthcare thought leader with extensive consulting and operational expertise in the business of health care including a focus on population health management. Dr. Silverstein has dedicated his 20 years of health care experience on creating a positive impact on patient care and provider satisfaction thought business strategy and operations. In recognition of his contributions to the industry, Dr. Silverstein was named was named one of the “10 people to know in the World of ACOs” in 2010. Currently, Dr. Silverstein is focused on assisting select organizations throughout the country on their value based care delivery strategy and operations. Recent engagements include a range of provider systems from large prominent academic medical centers to community based health care systems.
Ruth Wageman is one of the foremost scholars and practitioners studying and working with leadership teams. Understanding the conditions that influence superb team performance has been the core of Ruth’s research, teaching and consulting for the last thirty years. Ruth’s work places particular emphasis on modern challenges to organizations and society. She studies and develops the capacities that are needed to solve complex problems and to lead systems change. She builds collaborative leadership capacity within and across organizations, especially with multi-stakeholder leadership groups working to transform regional health. Ruth has been a professor at Columbia, Dartmouth, and Harvard, where she has led many original research programs about the design and leadership of teams. Based on her scholarly work, Ruth designed the Team Diagnostic Survey with Richard Hackman and Erin Lehman, a powerful, well-validated assessment that characterizes team effectiveness and how well the Six Conditions that drive effectiveness are established for that team; she leads accreditation workshops and supervises coaches in the use of the instrument in their practice.
